Catalytic Converter Help
My 2009 Dodge Ram 1500, may need a new Catalytic Converter. I am getting the P04020 code (catalytic converter code). I know that it could also be a O2 sensor. However since I have 110K miles on my truck; it could be time for new cats.
So that being said. I can't find any aftermarket cats for 4th gen Dodges. I called MaganaFlow, and they said part #51355 would work, but that's for the 3rd gens.
Took a look under the truck earlier, and looks like it's 3" in/out on the pair of stock cats. The main thing is that it looks like there's a bolt plat on the side connecting to the manifold (or in my case my JBA shorty headers). Now, there is a few inches of pipe between the body of the cats and the bolt plat. Do you think a muffler shop could cut the pipe there (right in front of the cat body) and then weld on a aftermarket MaganaFlow cat; say something like this: http://www.magnaflow.com/02catalytic...versal=99356HM
I know ^^^this^^^ is 2.5" in/out, but might that work? It's really the bolt plat that's a pain in the a$$. Also, there are two O2 sensors on each cat; actually one on the cat, one on the pipe right before the cat body... So if it could be done, probably have to cut after that O2 sensor; or would this maybe work: http://www.magnaflow.com/02catalytic...versal=99069HM
What I'm trying to get at is avoid having to buy the stock/Mopar cats with pipes; i.e. this (b/c it's expensive as hell): http://www.moparpartsstore.com/oem-p...ipe/68039563ab
If I can get aftermarket cats installed, I think I'm also going to get a new muffler put on (currently have a SI/DO Borla), probably a MangaFlow Tru-X muffer DI/DO, that way I can more or less have a dual exhaust system. Here: http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...=main&id=11328
So what do you think? Are there any aftermarket cats that will work on the 4th gen Dodges... b/c I can't find any. Remember, stock is 3" in/out with stupid manifold bolt plate on it. Am I screwed, and going to have to get the Mopar one that has all the piping on it, as referenced above? Guess I more or less curious if anyone has had to deal with any of this let, b/c 4th gen cat posts are few and far between.
Thanks for your help and suggestions.
