Default 2012 Laramie Limited Tailgate

Just picked up a new 2012 Laramie Limited diesel and am having issues with the tail gate not latching in the cold Canadian weather. I'm able to latch it if I put steam on it bit under any other circumstances it will not latch. Please any help

I would open the tailgate panel and apply some grease in the strategic locations.

First thing I would do is spray the latches on each side of the tailgate with some of your favorite lubricant.

Tried lubricating the latches, they close (by pushing with a screw driver) and then will release when I pull the handle. The only way I can get it to close is to use steam on tailgate. Is this a common problem with dodges in cold temperatures?

I've never had it happen to mine and it gets plenty cold here.

Bsapara,

This isn't a problem I've heard of with the Rams in cold weather. Do you know if it is the handle or the latch? Have you checked to see if there is any clogged debris in the area?

If you are still experiencing a problem, I would suggest having your Dodge dealer look at the issue. They may be able to assist with some adjustments.

I don't recall having the problem last winter with my 2012 Laramie, but I am noticing it this year. Especially when its around -30 degrees.
The linkage seems to work just fine, the problem is right at the latch. I'm thinking of degreasing it a bit just to free it up, and then apply some low temp grease. Can't make it worse, can I?!!

Clean the tailgate latch`s really good with solvent then go pick up some spray chain lube at your local motorcycle shop and spray the latch`s really good. I do this once a year just before winter, ended my latching issues. I also spray all the door hinges and locks with the chain lube as well. Haven`t had a problem since. Be very careful with ANY type solvent, some solvents are very strong and can ruin your paint. Solvent can be bought at most hardware stores... always ask them the strength of the solvent before you buy it. Forget the SIMPLE GREEN type cleaners/degreasers, most of those household cleaners are only citrus based and do not work well.

I have troubles with mine when it gets really cold out like -30 -40 range. Usually i try closing it a few times (as hard as i dare) and push on handle it will close though. Just thought it was another thing that didn't like the Canadian cold so ive never really looked into it. Let us know if you do find a fix.
