@rdculus and to all else.... talking to the dealership today they changed out the drivetrain control module. before doing so they had hooked my truck up to a computer and not sure which program they were using but they ran a few scans and found the control module was miscommunicating with the trucks internal computer... i'd say if you got issues and are under warranty have em scan it out and even if your not.. it took the guys at my dealership in The Pas 20-30 minutes to run the scans and got the info... something to at least look into for all who still are having the issues

after restarting the truck the selector (****) is still in 4auto but the 4lock indicator is on the dash by the gauges. when I try to drive away the drivetrain is in 2wd because the tires spin easily.
I correct it by cycling the **** back to 2wd and then back to 4auto and things work properly.
this first happened about a year ago, and has been getting more frequent as time goes on.
MarkBristow- is there any way you can find out what module the dealer replaced? it would help others dealing with this issue.
rdculus,

I'm sorry to hear about the 4WD issue you've been experiencing. In regards the repairs completed mentioned by @MarkBristow, the Drivetrain Control Module (DTCM) is the component that controls the 4X4 transfer case shift functions. As you are experiencing these symptoms, investigating the DTCM and shift motor may help to resolve your concern.
