Default tires

I have a set of studded snow tires on 16" rims I had on my 2008 Dakota. Would these be alright on my 2012 Ram or would the computer detect the smaller size? I know the speed will be off on the speedometer. I don't want to screw up any thing. It has 275/60/20 tires now.

No, you cannot mount 16" wheels. Too small to clear the calipers. 17" minimum for these trucks.

Also, I dont think the bolt pattern is the same either even if you did have 17"+ larger wheels(5x5.5"?)

The bolt pattern on the 05+ Dakotas is the same as the Ram, 5x5.5".

But I agree that the Ram definitely needs a minimum 17" wheel, so no go on the 16's.
