Default Anyone using a aftermarket trans temp gauge and or a trans cooler.

I have a 2012 ram express I'm trying to set it up a little better for towing my camper. I just put in a tekonsha P3 brake controller and airlift air bags with on board air compressor and now I'm thinking I should probably put a trans temp gauge in and possibly a trans cooler. Is anyone using a aftermarket gauge and or a cooler ? My truck does not have the fancy digital display in the dash.

You can always do that, but I have a 2010 with over 100k miles and I tow a trailer 4 days a week typically. Never gave it a thought for a cooler.

I will be towing a 30' travel trailer fully loaded so I'm going to be pushing the envelope. I was thinking it would probably be best to be able to see the trans temp and then either add a cooler or try to lighten the load. My truck has no trans temp gauge you would think that would be a standard thing on a truck.

You could use an OBDII reader with gauges display like a bully Dog. As far as the trans cooler, your truck already has one, and it has a thermostat to help the fluid heat up. I looked into adding another one as I was seeing real high temps when towing in Tow-Haul but I was talked out of it by the trans shop I went to. They said that the stock is plenty big and adding another one may make the trans fluid too cool and that my trans likes it warm (180-200). Also, I learned to lock it in gear and not let the trans do a lot of shifting so that the torque converter is locked, problem solved. The trans runs a lot cooler now.

That's good info Pedro Dog I will try that. I was looking at the bully dog it looks like a nice unit. I was also thinking of getting a pillar pod for 2 gauges and mount a trans temp and the gauge for the airlift into it not sure what to do I was hoping some other people had installed some gauges etc.
