I guess it may be personal preference, but as far as i'm concerned, backup lights should light up the area directly behind your truck to be of any use. I am not concerned with lighting up an area 50' behind me and having a dark shadow for the first 20 feet.
I have played with many types. What I run right now is like a 40 LED 360* pattern 5050SMT LED. It throws light everywhere, and with 5% and 0% windows I can see better than halogen. However, I have a 3157 socket, the ram is a 921, you wont get the best light out of it. If I were you, run the halogen, or find a HID reverse kit. I used to also have a set of lights under the bumper which were like headlights in the back, you could do that. There are LED pods that are slim and brighten the entire rear end.

I now have a set of flush mounted Rigid Duallys in my rear bumper. Like having a set of headlights for backing up. I did want to have the stock reverse lights brighter too. Thanks for the info though.

They are in the process of redesigning it right now but vleds.com has a very nice led license plate frame. The old model is 6-18 watt leds. I installed it on my gf 09 1500 and on mine 05 dakota. 2 wire hook up and doesn't look gaudy at all

yeah I used to have the lights in the rear. I wish that the LEDs were there, but for the time being they arent there yet. That small of a bulb kills it too, the Fords have the 921 as well, and they dont brighten anything. All my Ford buddies have added lights because they cant see

Im thinking about getting one of those for my roll pan whenever it finally feels like it wants to be delivered to me. its either that or a camera in the rear.

Well after seeing the Ram OEM LED tail lights in person as well as a set of Recon's at my local shop and then finally a set of Spyders, i opted to go with Spyder.

First off, i really do not like the chrome trim on the OEM units. IMO it makes them look cheap. So that combined with the much higher price and way more complicated install rules them out.

As for the Recon models. They were not as bright as the Spyder models despite costing over a $100 more. Overall quality of construction on the Spyder and Recon models seemed the same. They both have the same number of LED's (15). But the LED reflectors on the Spyder models and perhaps the LED's they use (Phillips LumiLEDs) are MUCH brighter. The side LED's on the Spyder models are super bright as well.

I ordered them Monday night and they arrived this morning and i had them installed in 25 minutes. It would have taken half as long had a not had to do a tiny bit of filing on one of the backup light holes. You reuse the stock backup light sockets and on one side the fit was a bit snug. I could have left it alone and been done but i wanted to make it smooth so i opted to file the opening a bit.

They work perfectly and flash at the same rate as the stock halogen models. In the tail light mode they are as bright as the halogen stock versions in the brake light mode. A vast improvement over stock and they are instant on as opposed to a slight delay with filament bulbs.

Thanks for that reply NV290. I did as you on the taillights and also added an LED turn signal module in front, both in smoke. Both front and rear had included resistor units which I installed and still got the fast blink. Big Texxan suggested I get a flasher EF27L which is specifically for LED lighting. Hope that solves the issue.

You added aftermarket tails, and aftermarket LED signals in front? Those modules that some companies have dont take into account our trucks have 6 total turning lights. Which sucks

The front turn led turn signal units look the same as oe and I got them on ebay. One issue I had was that the connection to the oe wiring has to be plugged in correctly as the led connector can go either way. Test before buttoning up.
