Default Lifters and Warranty

Hi Guys,

I have an issue... really sounds like a noisy lifter, sounds like just one. I have also heard that it might be a broken manifold stud... dunno... had a dodge caravan with noisy lifters, sounds more like that.

Has anyone had any success (or failure) getting these warrantied? I have 82,000kms on a 100,000km factory drivetrain warranty. HOWEVER, I am the second owner, and I don't have any records on whether or not the proper maintenance was done on the vehicle.

I got an oilchange done about 3000kms ago, and it still looks very clean.

Thoughts? Experiences?

Thanks
Nick

Unless something has changed, the warranty is transferable and nothing needs to be done to do that. In other words, it's 100k no matter the owner. However, i am not sure what documentation is required that proves whatever maintenance that was required properly and timely.

Some others with more knowledge can chime in but you might simply be hearing the "Hemi-Tick" these trucks are known for. Are you using 5W20 oil?

Does the ticking sound change as the engine warms up? If it does it is likely a broken manifold stud. I have taken mine in for a manifold stud and warranty covered it no issues.

I had a lifter go on my 2009 Ram Hemi when the truck was just out of warranty (100,000 km warranty in Canada...about 60k miles). Dealer recommended changing 8 lifters. The dealer did the work at cost, and Dodge Canada paid about 70% of the cost. I thought that was fair.

BullyT,

I'm pleased to hear your dealer was able to help you out with the cost, outside of warranty.

@nickf, as indicated, your 5 year, 100,000km Powertrain warranty should still be valid. The manufacturer's warranty remains with the vehicle if a defect is present. I would recommend a diagnosis to pinpoint what could be responsible for your issue.

Thanks guys. Took the Ram into the shop today. Turns out there are some broken manifold studs... they are going to cover it under the warranty!
