Turning off MDS alone will fix the problem. I'm running a flowmaster 40 muffler with MDS disabled and I haven't had a lick of drone since. You might be able to have a dealer disable it for you, but I did mine with a tuner.

Any noticeable difference in mileage with it disabled?

What tuner are you using....and for those with a 2014 with six speed trans....if you use the manual shift sequence the mds will be disabled....it only actuates when left in the automatic mode...so no need to do anything special to turn it off

I went through 7 different mufflers on my 06 before I found that muffler...and it works well, flows well and no drone

Its definitely the muffler. The mpg loss was immediate, with the next tank of gas and the muffler was and is the only difference on the truck.

Are your mpg figures hand calculated, taken from the onboard computer, or done with an app?

I use the Diablo inTune I-1000-DCX through HemiFever Tuning. Also, I'm very aware of that and it's what I used to do prior to having a tuner, but that's annoying to have to keep manually shifting to 6th every time I start my truck. I don't have to do that anymore. PLUS, I raised my top speed limiter and have a throttle booster, and I can check engine codes, and adjust for different wheel/tire sizes. With the recent updates, I can also adjust when my transmission shifts and what not, but I haven't really got into that too much.

I never depend on the lie-o-meter. Towing 2000 pounds on the interstate in East Tennessee and Virginia, at 65 mph at 175 miles run we filled up and I put in 9.35 gallons. You do the math and that comes out to 18.71 mpg. I see no way that this muffler cost you any mileage...but then you say it so I'll honor your opinion. As a matter of fact the lie-o-meter actually showed less than the hand calculation, but not by much. For that 900 mile trip I averaged 17.2 mpg all hand calculated, and towing through the mountains, I thought that figure was outstanding

You must annoy very easily, since all you do is touch a little button and mds is off. Not much to it if you ask me. So lets face it you got the tuner for all the other stuff, which is good, I'll agree. I use my manual mode every day and it's about as easy as you could ask for

I do annoy very easily. I have a difficult time dealing with idiots. I hate unnatural noises that don't belong in places where I hear them, and I absolutely hate cutting corners. In the end, I got the tuner so I can get more power. Being able to disable MDS was a mega bonus. Plus, my HEMI is faster than your HEMI.

I have trouble dealing with idiots also...and Quote: Plus, my HEMI is faster than your HEMI. Maybe, maybe not You just might be surprised how fast my Hemi is

My drone isn't caused by my mds, when my mds kicks in it sounds like a bread truck with two cylinders down. The drone I get is at a certain rpm. usually around 30/40 mph.

I cannot believe you called people Idiot's who are just looking for input.

to each their own I guess
