Default Need wiring help in Rear view mirror - 2011 Model

Ram Laramie 2011

I just bought a blenmount Radar detector mount for my truck so i can hook up the radar into my mirror instead of using the cigarette lighter.

The mount includes a wire tap that taps into the mirrors wire harness. It has a
Red +12v and a Black ground.

I don't have a multimeter to test the wires on my mirror, and i need to identify which wires are +12v and ground.

If anyone has done this before please let me know, or if you have a mutimeter and can test it that would also be great.

(Attached is a picture of my mirror and mirrortaps for reference)

A simple test light will do. First check all the plugs with the power off. Make a note. Then check all the plugs with the key on. Make a note. The colors that have no power when off or on is probably going to be the ground. Next check the plugs that have power when the key is off and do the same when the key is on. Plug and play. The wire that is never hot will probably be your ground and the wire that is only hot in the key on position should be your 12 volt. This is how I figured my 09 out. Good luck and it is a nice setup once installed.

A basic digital multi-meter is very cheap these days - around here, on sale, you can get a reasonable quality unit for around $20 & they're a lot more versatile than a test light, but both are a really good addition to any toolbox.

I have a Blendmount on my 2011 Big Horn. I can e-mail you a picture if you would like but it was the first two wires on the passenger side of the plug. The first is the Positive, the second is the ground.
