I seem to remember a couple of guys that complained about it in this forum. It isn't a common thing to the hemi engines in the Ram. If my memory serves me correctly, the sound goes away after the truck warms up. Is this the case with your truck?

I bought her with 119k miles, at around 120k I start hearing this odd clicking noise, I assumed it was a wheel bearing from the symptoms but upon further investigation found that the noise is coming from what seems to be the timing chain cover. And this noise only occurs when the MDS kicks in and running on 4 cyl mode. Did some research and found that MDS equipped CARS such as charger, challenger, ect. Had a major issue with the timing chain snapping while MDS is on and blowing up the motor. My local dealership says they don't know anything about that and my truck has no recalls, and all they can do for me is charge me a $100 diagnostic to tell me what is it. I work on cars for a living and I know this kind of wear on a timing chain is not normal. I've replaced an engine in a GM with 415k miles and irlts factory timing chain set up looked brand new. So I'm just curious if anyone has every experienced this with their ram or even heard of it. Surely I'm not the only one out there that is experiencing the exact problem thousands of others in challengers and such had to deal with by chance?
I'm Currently at 126k and can hear a rather harsh noise only when the engine is cold and only during the MDS switching to the on cycle. I'm not overly concerned about it.

I read something about the RAM trucks already having a HD timing chain tensioner. The HD tensioner is the fix for the CARS equipped with MDS according to the article. The Article also had pictures FWIW

^The "stealership" won't know your ECM software number unless you bring the truck in and have it connected to their diagnostic equipment. I would think someone who "works on cars for a living" must be charging people, same as the tech would at the dealer to look at your Ram.
Regardless, the car recall is for a bad chain guide, the recall did not apply to trucks.
Also, there is no way in the world you changed an engine with 415K miles and the t/chain was "like new", I don't care what it came out of, that's not possible, unless of course the chain was not original to the engine.
