Default Truck delivery question

So the truck im looking at is at another dealer 300miles away. The dealer is trying to get me to sign and buy, before the truck is delivered (driven from nc, 300 f!!ing miles away). Is that normal, just asking others experience. I think they might nit want the risk of buying the truck without me buying in fear of me walking. So what is the deal here...

I told them if there is 5-600 miles racked up i am not taking it

Thoughts?

I'd say it's normal. They need to pay to get it to their lot, and if you don't want it they're stuck with the truck. Are you really that concerned with the extra miles? If it's the truck you want and they're getting it for you it seems silly to worry about a few hundred extra miles.

I wouldn't pay before seeing the truck. Mostly I say that because we recently took delivery of a new vehicle that had come from another dealer (only 40-50 miles away) that had some paint/body issues. In retrospect we should not have taken delivery of that vehicle (repairs were a nightmare), but if we had already signed for it we would have had no choice.

As to the miles, while it's nice to pick up a new vehicle with 3 miles on it, 3 or 300 is really not any difference in the scheme of things. If you're concerned about miles, there are two things you can do:
1. Get a current mileage statement.
2. Pay for a flatbed to pick it up.

Dodge dealer? Don't pay till its delivered. Salesman will tell you anything. Walk away if they insist.

Why would they go through the trouble of doing a dealer transfer over that distance if it was not guaranteed sold? Especially if you actually said something like - if it has some miles on it then I'm not buying it.

Did the same thing with my wife's car, the one she wanted was a couple hundred miles away so rather than go there to buy it I had my local dealer do a trade - but I had it bought and paid for before we ever saw it. Her car had whatever the travel distance was, my salesman drove to the other dealer himself with the car that they were swapping for it and drove it back on a Sunday.

As for the miles - who cares? 300 miles is nothing, and it is expensive to tow a full sized pickup 300 miles.

Dealers pay when the vehicle is delivered to there Dealership , getting a unit from another dealer requires that the buying dealer pays up front before the vehicle is released as the supplying dealer has already paid for the unit.

Not a dodge but I bought an 08 f150 new and they had to do a dealer trade. No money down. They just did it and told me "no biggie....if I don't buy it, someone else will." And yes that's exactly what they told me. Had a nightmare at the dealership before that. They wanted $500 down for collateral, got me a truck, called me to come in and sign the remaining papers and I get there and with paperwork in front of me they tell me they can't sell it to me. It didn't have CA emissions which is required in PA to sell new. So I went to the other one and explained it to him, he told me I was out of that deal since they didn't deliver and I called them and called it off. They were harassing me and telling me I wasn't getting my money back. Luckily I used my credit card and cancelled the transaction and it ended up going thru the Better Business Bureau. At the 2nd dealership I had the best salesman I've ever seen and I would buy a vehicle off of him again in a heartbeat. Unfortunately I didn't and got screwed a bit on my ram when I traded the f150.

Well, there IS a difference between a dealer trade and a dealer purchase. And I can understand a dealer not wanting to buy a truck, drive/travel 600 miles to get it, and then not sell it AND have a vehicle with 300+ miles on it that they need to sell as "new".

Regardless, I wouldn't make the purchase final until I saw it with my own eyes and was satisfied that it was as represented.
