LOOKING AT BUYING A 4th Gen?
#2
I've got one of the early (March 2009) 4th generations. Problems I've had are:
Failed pinion bearing-leaking seal.
Rear axle retaining nut (recall)
HVAC controls (recall) still does not work properly.
Tie Rod ends failed (recall)
Exhaust manifold studs broken (TSB)
MyGig Radio issues, replaced once.
Keyless entry has never worked 100%. Dealer finds no issue.
Brake Rotors-rear calipers hung up.
Upper radiator hose-persistent leak. Worm gear clamp and rtv has stopped it.
61k miles-front strut seals failed
RF fender has begun to rot out directly in the center
Panel on top of dash has begun to get sticky
All in all, not too awful for a first year run, and far fewer issues than I had with my nbs 2007 Silverado. I would say get the newest model year that you can afford. The newer they are, the more bugs that get worked out.
