You may be right, but the removal still causes you to fail, idk if its because emmisions or visual inspection. Here, especially for vehicle 2000 or newer almost anything can cause you to fail, as a matter of fact, my ram just failed a few days ago, after some research i think the problem is do to installed tuner, i will find out this week if thats the case.

QUOTE=NV290;3245014]A resonator has absolutely nothing to do with with emissions on any vehicle, (other than the fact that the exhaust passes through it). Removal of one or both resonators in our trucks will not have any impact whatsoever on emissions. All they do is alter the sound, nothing more.[/QUOTE]

Yeah, it may fail for tampering with the exhaust, but it has nothing to do with the emissions controls installed on the vehicle. I can imagine California having some kind of screwed up rule about that. Haha.

UOTE=98Dodgeram360V8Mag;3242540]Hey guys, I was wanting to know if taking the resonators off will harm anything. Currently I have the stock setup but I took out the stock muffler and put a dual in single out Cherry Bomb Extreme on. I have a 5.7 Hemi. It is the factory dual exhaust.

Illinois. We don't have that crap anymore. :-) and I decided to leave them on. Sounds awesome with the stock cats and pipes and the Cherry Bomb Extreme!

I said they cause you to fail smog check, mever said its due ti emisions. I just failed part was due to visual inspection, (CAI & Exhaust cut offs). Yes the tech did pop the hood, and got underneath the truck. Apparently the system just changed and hot real strict on smog checks? Especially for +2000 cars. Here in LA the city/police has random "smog check points" they setup at a corner, they stop random cars, and perform inspections on the spot. They then compare to previous inspections completed tk try and catch fake certifications

"Smog check" IS emissions. California has always had strict regulations on any parts that impact emissions. That is where the whole "CARB Legal" in advertising came about. CARB is the California Air Resources Board. But neither a Resonator nor a muffler will impact a Smog/Emissions test. The only time i have ever heard of a Muffler or Resonator causing an issue with a state inspection was due to noise (the car was too loud). But not because of emissions. And cutouts will certainly cause you to fail in many states. If they are pre-cat, then it's for emissions reasons. If they are post cat then it's typically noise reasons. But don't confuse an item that will cause you to fail a safety test with a smog test.

They do a visual only on vehicles 96 and older here. But, cut-outs will fail and missing the cat will fail. It's not "emissions" testing so to speak, where they sniff the tailpipe or scan for readiness monitors and codes, but all factory installed emissions equipment must be present. You can hollow out the cat, or get one of those fake cats, but something that looks like a cat has to be there to pass visual. Exhaust cut-outs are an automatic fail though because the exhaust has to have a muffler, a cut-out bypass the muffler. Thats noise only related though.
