Default Eco Mode Question

Hey folks, I have a 13 Express 1500. Is there a certain speed you're cruising at that this mode won't kick in, seems like around 70-plus even if the cruise is set and I'm on level ground it never kicks in...Thanks a ton for any feedback.

Does the owners manual make mention of this mode?

I would assume that at that speed the power requirements (mostly due to wind resistance) are too high for Eco.

I would agree... moving at that speed eco mode would most likely only come on when going down hill.. the motor is working too hard to kick into eco mode at that speed...

It doesn't take much of a hill to kick it out of eco mode.

Yup. Level ground with little to no opposing wind (or downhill). I find that any real wind (over 5 MPH) that is against you, or the slightest incline, and ECO mode turns off.

Nothing we can do. Its a big, heavy truck.

I have 2012 Ram and I have the 6 speed auto. I run it in 6 and not D so to keep the Eco Mode turned off. I actually believe it performs better and actually get a mile or two more per gallon of gas running it this way. It just seems to me that the engine isn't workingas hard having all 8 cylinders pulling the truck along as opposed to 4 cylinders trying to do it.

I have a 15 Express Crew, and my Eco comes on all the time, slight uphill, down, flat, windy, ect. When I have cruise on at 120kph (75mph) it comes on the most, Constant on flat/down and some slight hills. Even when it does kick off it doesnt seem to go about 1500rpm to often except steeper hills.

I have the Eco Indicator turned off. Too annoying. I also run in 6/7/8 unless running at 65+ because of the annoying MDS sound effect with my Magnaflow DOD18. Either it doesn't happen at the higher RPM/load, or you just can't hear it in the cabin.

I think it depends on the final gear ratio related to the power band of the engine. There seems to be a range from 66-ish to 75-ish where I seem to get worse milage than just below or just above that range. I'm guessing RPMs.

I do enjoy getting 22 - 23 MPG on 1,000 mile trips. '09 Quad TRX 2wd
