I have also figured out that when the truck is in tow/haul mode there is no hesitation or stumble while accelerating like there is when it is in drive..if I put it to the floor it is there slightly but not like it is when it is in drive..and I have also noticed than while cruise is on and gets to a slight incline and it goes to give it more gas it jus falls on its face and doesn't wanna accelerate..also only while in drive..not tow mode..plz help

Default Same Problem as Wilson

2013 Ram 1500 Quad Cab w/4.7 Flex engine. Only run gas in it (10% Alcohol BS) no E85. 14.7 MPG

Interstate on ramp have to floor it to make it pick up enough speed to be at highway speed by end of ramp. Cannot gradually pick up speed.

Fuel additive/Octane booster make it run worse.

70K plus miles.

Any ideas?

Quit being so cheap and take it to the dealer for a diagnosis. It should only take 1 hour of shop time then you can decide what to do.

Both of you guys are asking for help with very general descriptions of the issues and are not providing much background. Are the trucks stock? what has been done to them?

JimStinson, you need to open your own thread or this one starts getting very hard to follow.

My truck is completely stock..nothing is done to it at all..and I don't wanna take it to the dealer if it was something simple..I have called the dealer and they suggested I change my transmission fluid that it sounds like it's dirty or a filter has failed and it's causing loss off pressure in the lines and when I put it in tow mode it boosts the pressure enough to keep it from hesitating as bad.

Pedro, you have never dealt with the dealer here in Lake Charles. He makes most used car salesmen look professional. I have let them check out a brake problem one time. Will never go back. Apparently a blue rotor, smell of burnt rubber and hyd fluid, and melted rubber from caliper are not an indication of a problem. I only took it there because it was warranty work. As for your other suggestion, ok, I will start my own thread. Thanks for the help?

you have carbon built up somewhere in the motor, depending on the gas you have been using, have you tried a higher test gas? every now and then I will put 93/94 octane and beat the crap out of my 4.7 if your not tossing codes then its something stupid. also check all your ground wires for corrosion. something simple like that could affect truck. next check your exhaust outlet. see if there is enough air coming out. a clogged cat wont toss a code but will wreak havoc with the pcm. also go to an auto parts store to see if any codes are stored. your cel might not even light up. and your computer may need just a reset. remove neg battery cable for about 20 minutes, then reconnect and start and stop truck 3 times, on the third time keep it running for about 5 minutes to relearn. then take it for a ride but DONT baby it. drive it hard and see if your issues return

I have done everything u have suggested..and idt I have carbon build up bc it has done this since 48k miles..that's pretty early for that much carbon build up..and it is jus weird that when I put it in tow hail mode the problem goes away..without tow mode it hesitates while accelerating and kinda surges back and forth..when in tow mode it drives perfect..when in tow and I do a wot it almost bogs down in high rpms but still never hesitates or surges..that's why the dealer suggested changing my transmission fluid bc I may not have enough pressure for the tourque converter to work correctly
