Default Gatorback mud flaps installation question

I purchased and had the dealer install some gatorback mudflaps which were precut in the front. Looking my pickup over I noticed that they removed the front chip guards and said that was normal to remove that. My initial impression was that the flaps were precut to go over this part however the instructions from gatorbacks site is generic to all flaps.

Anyone know which way it should be?

imo the flaps don't sit flat with the guards in place.

When you buy the molded to fit oem flaps...the instructions have you remove the guards and throw them out.

alright I got a response from Gatorback and they stated they wouldn't have removed the chip guard and that you don't need to. They linked me to this video:

I did notice however this video:

so it seems its done two ways. I reached out to the dealer to see about getting the chip guard setup done as to me at least it seems to make more sense in place instead of the exposed body portion, so will see how it goes.

the flap protects the area exposed by the removed guard. I have done them both ways. with the guard on, the flap has a small deformation where it hits the raised area of the guard. If your ok with that, leave them on.

The precut flaps wit the chip guards removed exposes a painted section of the vehicle that the chip guards were covering. I could however see them being covered if you had say the full uncut flaps.

I talked to the dealer who installed them and they are going to put on the chip guards back on like the 2016 video so should be good to go there.

Gatorback was very prompt with responses and friendly, nice customer service so far and the flaps look excellent.

The customization portion of the dealership put the chip guards back on, all of them front and rear and it looks much better now.
