Default What is this thing?

What is this thing? An IED? Joking aside, I've owned this truck (2010 Laramie) for seven years and never noticed it before. Today I replaced a running board light and just happened to see this thing. It looks like a big metal Yo-Yo. I'm curious.. what is it and what does it do? It's located under the cab kinda between the first and second lights from the front.

I have not a clue what that is there for. It doesn't appear to serve any useful purpose.......

Its for noise and vibration dampening (Harmonics)

Thanks... interesting. I'm not sure how effective it is since it seems to be welded to the frame but it must do something.
