Default Gears

I知 brand new on your site, so Hello. Wondering if anyone has had issues putting gears in their 2015 2500 Ram?. I知 going on my 4th set of AAM 444 gears. First set lasted 800 miles, they were whining and clunking really bad. Second set lasted 80 miles before they started having issues. Third set were really quite at first, then after 500 miles they are starting to whin yet again. Have not done any towing, no heavy foot and only drive a little before letting gears cool down. Have taken to 2 different shops. Taking truck back tomorrow to shop again. Has anyone had issues putting lower gears in this truck? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. About to drive truck off cliff...Thanks

What brand gears are the shops putting in your truck? Do they know what they are doing???? (is this something they do on a regular basis?) Might wanna find a 4x4 shop in the area, and have them do it......

They put AAM gears into my truck. AAM makes the gears for the new GM and Dodge trucks, this is why I used them. Both shops have done gears before. The second shop set them up a lot better then the first shop. I just can’t figure out why this is such a big deal..This last time there was no noise at all until about the 400 mile mark, then it stated whining. Thanks for help.

Was it the gears themselves, or a bearing whining? Does the AAM diff use a crush sleeve?

Yes they use a crush sleeve. The bearings are a special bearing from Yukon, AAM doesn’t make a bearing for these gears for a Coil Over truck. I been told that a 444 gear won’t work in that carrier because of the coil over springs. This is from a factory dodge tech. They can’t tell me why, just that anything under 410 gears won’t work. AAM says yes they will. The bearings that come with the gears are for a leaf spring truck and they are too loose on my pinion. That’s why I have to buy these bearings from Yukon. Have you ever heard of such a thing?

No, I haven't. How the axle is held onto the truck, (or, the truck holds on to the axle, as the case may be) *should* be irrelevant to what's inside the diff. There should be a standard spec for bearings, regardless of who made the ring and pinion set. If one company decides it wants to force you to buy THEIR bearings to install their gears, I would be tempted to move on to another gear manufacturer..

Yep that’s what I keep asking them, what is the difference if it’s coil spring or leaf spring rearend. They can’t give me a reason, but for some reason there is a difference on the bearing size for a coil spring verses a leaf... Thanks again for all the info.

I believe it was 2015...found another gear specialist 35 miles from my house, so if this shop can稚 figure it out I will go there. Getting louder exhaust and turning up the radio is a crazy way to fix the issue...
