Default Dodge Ram Key+fob stolen: what to do?

Last week, my 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 was burglarized and a key and fob for the truck was stolen. What are my options? Can I just get a new key and, reprogram both fobs? I suppose the thief could still insert the key he has, but would this not set off the panic alarm?

So you had a key and fob for the same truck that was broken in to in that truck? I'm not real certain about the 2004 model year, but usually the factory alarm systems have a switch on the driver's key cylinder that will disarm the alarm if the physical key is used instead of the fob.

Most of my fob programming experience comes from Ford products so I'm unsure if Mopars are similar. With Fords and a professional scan tool it is possible to clear out previously programmed fobs so they will no longer work. It's also possible with Fords to change the tumblers to match a different key. You may want to call your local locksmith to find out what they can do with a 2004 Ram.

I think you need to have the lock cylinders changed for a new key, and whatever they have to do to prevent the stolen FOB from working.... With the fob, and a key, whomever got 'em, could just drive the truck away.

the dealership can add new transponder keys/fobs to the existing programmed keys or erase all old keys and program just the new ones.

Why do you leave your keys and fob inside the vehicle?
