Default 2009 1500 4x4 purchase

Hello all, new to the group & have just purchased our first 3rd gen truck. I have two 2nd gen trucks. The new addition is an '09 regular cab, 8ft bed 4x4 w/ hemi. It has 90,000 miles & I'm the 3rd owner. Any pointers on things to keep an eye out for? I've read the sticky on common issues....I didn't notice any of them during the test drive & purchase.
thanks,
Mike Sal

Yep 4th gen, being as you have a first year 4th gen, there is timing chain recall on the 5.7, also it has the RFE transmission...as long as you leave it stock it will be fine. If you modify for more power the RFE won't like it.

An 18ft car hauler trailer & a Studebaker are about the only load I'll be hauling these days. No plans to monkey with the truck otherwise.

This truck is supposed to have the tow package, so what will I need to get a trailer brake hooked up to it?
thanks,
Mike S

How much do your trailer and Studebaker weigh? Are you going to be exceeding your tow rating with that load??

If the truck has the tow package, there is likely already a pre-wired connector under the dash for a trailer brake controller. Just need to hook it up.

The heaviest car we have is a '55 President state sedan & I think it's 3300 lbs. I just ordered a POD type controler unit which is supposed to have the connector to fit the truck.

Unless your trailer is VERY heavy, you should be good on weight than. Still, the 1500's have relatively small brakes when towing several additional tons behind it....... just make sure the trailer brakes work good.
