AM radio static
I have a 2012 Ram 1500 Outdoorsman 4X4 Hemi with integrated trailer brakes. There is static on AM radio stations and when the brake pedal is depressed the static quits. Any thoughts on cause? Thanks.
It sounds like there is a grounding issue somewhere. AM radio is very susceptible to poor grounding which makes sense since it's Amplitude Modulation (AM) and a bad ground can lead to a change in amplitude as the ground floats, etc. Considering your correlation to the brake lights, I'd be inclined to suspect the grounding issue is in the illumination circuit. You also mention an integrated brake controller, so I'd be focused on the wiring for the trailer, especially if the trailer wiring is not factory installed or has had some "repairs" or modifications made to it.

It's most likely a poorly-shielded switching regulator in the phone charger that's causing the noise in your case.
My 09 with over 210k has done this same thing since brand new, goes away when brakes applied and only while the motor is running. Wish I could help but I never could track down the issue just glad to hear it wasn't just mine...lol
My only guess would be a grounding problem. I'm pretty sure that's what it would be. Check your wiring.
