I have a clunking sound going from Drive to park... but not all the time.. noticed it at about 4000 miles I have a little over 7K on it now...It's in the dealership now but I told by a guy his does the same thing and they told him it was differential Oil???? and needed to be serviced ever 10K Miles?? I know 2 other guys that have the same sound...And then 1 guy said the differential was going out??? These are all the same type model makes and yrs trucks all 2018...1 tons I pull a 38' 5thwheel 16K Lbs ....with this truck.. I'm alone with 4 Aussie Dogs..... Any Ideas!!!!!

Let the dealer take care of it. That’s what warranties are for.

Thats not what I'm asking,,,, I wanna know if it could be the differential ... this sound has been on 4 trucks that I know of, These are all work trucks...It's at the dealership now and the service writer was a D***... wouldn't answer any questions,,, I have already had to call Chrysler on 2 dealerships because of service writers. This is the 3rd Ram I have owned in the last 30 yrs And I don't like being talked to like a 2nd class citizen because I'm female...I want to know more about what could be wrong and if anyone else has had the same sound.. and what it was. you shouldn't have to service the differential every 10K miles... my last Ram I had 412K miles on it and NEVER once serviced it

Could be an improperly shimmed differential, bad u joint, transmission problem, idle too high, or a hundred other things. Hard to diagnose over the internet.

With a 4x4, a bit of noise when going into gear really doesn't come as a surprise. there is a bit of slop in the t-case, and there is also a bit of slop in the differential gears. That all conspires to make the clunk noise when you put it in gear, or move from reverse, to drive. (or vice versa.) So long as it isn't excessive, it's likely perfectly fine. You don't need to change the diff lube every 10K miles. Some folks NEVER change the diff lube, and the truck rusts away to nothing before it causes any problems.
