Set Tow/Haul to Default, 2012 Ram 1500
Hi there! I’ve had my 2012 Ram 1500 for a little over three years, and I still LOVE it. It’s seriosly the most utilitarian, reliable vehicle I’ve ever had.
My only complaint, ever, has been the gear map, and the fact that it shifts at such low speeds. That said, it never bothered me enough to try to change it. One day however, I had it in tow when I had a trailer on my truck. I loved it! It is exactly the gear mapping that I want… I live right off of the highway, and it’s the first thing I hit whenever I head in the town. The Tow/Haul feature is the perfect gearing for driving around my town.
Not only is it a more comfortable ride, I’m getting better gas mileage, and I had good MPG before! That being what it is, I would really love to set the tow/haul feature to default.
Is there anyway I can do that, myself.

On the second gen trucks, the two/haul switch just sends a signal to the PCM when you press it, and the PCM takes it from there. One member wired it thru a relay, that got triggered at startup, so that the default mode was artificially forced to be tow/haul mode.
have you install oversized tires and not updated the tire size in the tipm? I went from factory 17 to factory 20"...the tire sized programming got erased during a reconfiguration procedure. the truck shifted late...tow mode was an improvement but getting the right size in the tipm is important...vehicle speed is a important input for trans shifting.
