Default 2013 Ram 2500 TPMS equipment confusion

My truck is complaining about a TPMS malfunction, and the dash display shows blank (-- instead of a pressure) for all four tires, the tire pressure warning "light" always on, and sounds a chime and shows a warning message each time I start the truck. This is the case both before and after changing back to summer tires & wheels (so it isn't the individual sensors).

The service manual states that there is no "TPMS module" per se. Instead, the RF signals from the wheel sensors are all received and analyzed by the RF Hub module, which is located inside the rear wall of the cab, behind the rear seatback.

On the other hand, the service manual's section 28 (DTC-based diagnostics) has a section for a TPM module and some of the diagnostics procedures mention replacement of the TPM module as if it were a separate unit.

My shop (not a Dodge shop) checked for codes, and got code U0127-00 "Lost communication with TPMS module" which is listed in the service manual section 28 (DTC-based diagnostics) in the Instrument Cluster section. This indicates that the instrument cluster cannot communicate with the TPM module. But my truck doesn't have one! Note that I'm not getting code U11B9 (lost communication with RF hub). So does this mean that the RF Hub should be responding as if it were also the TPM module but isn't? Or is the instrument cluster under the delusion that there should be a separate TPM module?

The best I can say is that I'm confused...

Do you have keyless entry, and if so, does it work?

Rod, if by that you mean that I can open the locked door just by being near the truck with the fob, no, I don't have that feature.
I have to press a button on the fob to unlock the truck (and that works fine)

That means the Truck is actually getting signals from the FOB..... so, the RF module *should* be good.....

Just out of idle curiosity, are there any open recalls on your truck? (I see a lot of TPMS recalls for various year dodges.....)

The only recall I'm aware of is a problem with the locking pin that prevents shifting out of Park at inappropriate times. But then I haven't looked up the vin myself...

Indeed... If the TPMS is part of the RF Module, and the cluster can speak to the RF Module, why wouldn't it be able to speak to the TPMS too? Perhaps they are actually two separate modules, both potted into the same case, sharing only the power and CAN bus connections. That could explain why one works and the other not...
Unfortunately that substantially increases the replacement cost if that is indeed the problem.

Call the dealer, and have a chat with the parts department....... See what they have to say.

I looked in front of the driver-side front wheel well liner, and this is what I saw...

Looks like a TPM module to me...
The manual section 22 - Tires and Wheels / Tire Pressure Monitoring / Description is just plain wrong when it says all the TPMS signal processing is done in the RF Hub module.
It's rainy today but when the weather improves I'll pull this module, inspect it for corroded connections etc, and test the plug for proper voltages.

the 2500 and 1500 probably use different systems. the wiring diagram I have shows a rf hub and tpm module. the tpm module uses one yellow and one green wire for the CAN bus. there also should be a red power wire to the module and black grd wire. check for power and grd to the module.

Default Resolved TPMS issue 2013 Dodge Ram 2500 6.7L

My TPMS light on my 2013 Dodge Cummings w/ 6” lift and 37” tires has continuously switched on after reset.

Code- unable to determine location of sensor.

Final remedy that resolved the problem after replacing OEM TPMS with steel stems in all four tires. And replacing the TPMS module.

Reduce tire pressure to 45psi in all for wheels. Drive short distance to activate low pressure alert on TPMS display.

Inflate front tires to 75psi cold
Inflate rear tires to 80psi cold

My TPMS is off and staying off! Thank God!

good luck!
