Default Disable DRL?

Sorry to beat the daytime running light horse to death but I haven’t found anything specific to answer my question. Traded my 2010 1500 in on my 4th ram, a 2016 sport, yesterday. It has the projector headlamps with LED signals/parking lamps. It was a Canadian truck so it has the amber DRLs enabled. I know most guys work hard to enable them but I’m wondering if there is a way to disable them. I’m infinitely annoyed that on other dodge vehicles, including my wife’s 14 Durango for example, you can turn DRLs on and off through Uconnect but you can’t on rams. I’d just assume not have them on if I can’t decide.

Anything else i should know or be aware of as far as my truck being a Canada truck?

Thanks in advance.

there MAY be configurable options; the dealer may be able to shut it off thru with a witech2 pod. drl are mandated in Canada so it may not be possible for a Canadian vehicle to override it. I wouldn't be paying a shop to find out. I'm cheap.

tpm are not mandated in Canada so Canadian trucks have winter tire mode....if you run without all 4 tpm sensors and the system will not display the warning lamp

Ah, good to know about the tpms. Shouldn’t be a problem but good to know still.

The DRL thing really annoys me though. Especially after driving home from work tonight. With my 2010, I’d try to be considerate of my neighbors by killing my head and fog lamps. That would be fine but apparently even in the parking light position, if the headlights are off the friggin DRLs come on and are BRIGHT AS HELL at night. I engaged my parking brake enough to trick the computer but this is ridiculous.

The dealership I bought it from was clueless as to disabling the lights. I figured I’d deal with them or even maybe like them. They do look good during the day. I just don’t get why they would design software to be this difficult to manipulate.

because its a legal requirement in Canada that the owner can't disable it.

I know. I meant even difficult for a dealer to disable. Not that I’ve tried yet but I’ve been finding stories online of the inability of dealers to disable it too.

Sort of off subject from my original question but along the lines of having been a Canadian truck, not sure how well known it is but for those that don’t, I just found out the hard way today that because the truck is a Canadian truck that is now in the US the factory warranty is void.

Just something to consider for anyone looking at used trucks. Be careful. Not only the first and last Canadian vehicle I’ll buy but maybe the last Chrysler. My dad worked at Jeep for 30 years, has had 6 jeeps, a Dakota and 2 Rams since 1988 and I’ve owned ONLY Chrysler’s, 2 wranglers, a Cherokee, 4 rams now and my wife’s wrangler and her Durango. I think we’re done now.

Say what???? Why would they void the warranty for driving across some line on a map???? That makes no sense at all, and I am not entirely sure its even legal......

sounds like bs. as long as the truck was bought in Canada and registered in Canada for 6 months...then transferred to the states...the warranty should be fine. if the vehicle was not registered in Canada your only warranty is in Canada.
they are preventing cross border shopping. Cars are $10 000 cheaper in the states vs Canada. All oem manufacturers do this.

As a Canadian or American...you can take trips to the across the border and have full warranty coverage in the other country.... BUT it must be registered in the country it was sold from for at least 6 months.

Unfortunately it seems to be the case. Since about 2003 actually. I called FCA twice to confirm and while I was at the dealer trying to have a warrantied repair done the service guy showed me his little tablet where it said in big bold letters something to the effect of not being able to perform work for a Canadian warrantied vehicle.

The truck is a 16 was shipped to and sold in canada for most of its life. Then it ended up in Michigan for a short time before I purchased it in Ohio.

Just throwing it out there as food for thought for anyone else.

That would make more sense but I’m not sure it’s the case. Even if it was the case my warranty would run out in the next 6 months.
