Fueling Problem
Need some advice.
Have a family trip planned and I am driving to Florida from NJ (Leaving in 3 days) Over the weekend I went to get gas and the nozzle continuously clicked off when the tank was nowhere even near full. Went to another gas station the next day since it took 15 minutes just to get 5 gallons in the tank and the same thing happened. It is a 2018 1500 and covered under warranty so I took to dealership today. They just called me back and said they haven't been able to diagnose it yet but they believe it will be needing a new fuel tank (worst case scenario) or best case scenario it is a bad vent solenoid..
If it is needed a new fuel tank it will be at least a couple of days to get here so if that is the case does anyone have any experience with something similar like this happening and have an easier way of fueling the truck for my trip down there before the repair is done? Not worried about the ride home as I am taking the auto train back.

The tank vent is not working properly. It *should* just be a hose, that runs alongside the fill hose, and goes to a vent just below where the gas gap screws in. Unless dodge, in their infinite wisdom, computerized THAT as well.......
Yeah I have heard that could be the problem hopefully. But then I heard from someone else that if a check valve at the base of the fill then a new tank is needed. So if that is the case there is no way I would be able to get it fixed before leaving on my trip so i need to find a way to fill the tank

Not sure about the latest technology...but dodge used/may still use a ESIM. Evaporative System Integrity Module. Basically does what it says.
When refuelling pressure vapours from gas tank force esim valve open to direct gas fumes to charcoal cannister. If this valve was to be stuck closed I can see it causing issues when refuelling....if it applies to your truck. Good luck. Do a search for ESIM. Let us all know how you make out.

I've got an '04 Impala that has the same issue. Slow filling. The last time I was under the car I noticed a canister just inside the rear quarter. I believe it vents when filling but closes other wise and is stuck shut. This is just a work car so I haven't bothered with changing it yet but it's just on the end of a tube from the tank.

Yeah I replaced the same thing on my daughter's 01 Impala last month after it failed inspection for a check engine light (popped out an emissions code (P0446) Wasnt too bad to replace. We will see what the dealership tells me today (Supposed to call this morning) I probably would of tried all that troubleshooting if the truck wasnt still covered under warranty
Well dealership just called and it needs a new fuel tank. Covered under warranty but cannot get the new tank in until the 20th which doesn't help me much with driving to Florida in 2 days. Guess when I stop for gas i'm gonna have to fill it real slow.
He said there could be 2 things that are wrong with it and unfortunately they are now both mounted in the tank itself...... the venting solenoid and the rollover check valve. Apparently the check valve tends to get stuck so i am wondering if a get a somewhat rigid wire I can snake it down the fill pipe to hold open that check valve when filling (if that is the problem)

I think that is going to be the only other choice you get.
