Question Headlight Help

The stock headlights on my 2015 Laramie are below average. Am I able to simply replace the bulbs with an LED, or HID bulb? or will I have to replace the whole unit?

My 2014 Limited has projector beam headlights and I was able to replace just the bulbs with LEDs. I'm very pleased with the end result. I also installed LED bulbs in my driving lights and high beam locations to match the color temperature of the headlights. I don't often use the driving lights since the new headlights seem plenty bright.

it depends on what lens you have. Shouldn't use hid with a reflective lens assembly (blinds oncoming drivers and illegal in some areas). If you have reflective go with led bulbs. Some factory systems have a hid projection lens with the cut off shutter but may have a halogen bulb or hid/ballast depending on the trim level.

if you have a single bulb for high/low you wont be happy with the LED replacement bulbs, at least the low beam output for them, ends up being crap because of the way they do design them with two chips (one on either side) run one of them for low, or both of them for high, meaning lowbeam cutoff is wayyyy lower than it should be. (LEDS are directional where the incadescent filament emits in a full 360 deg)

in reality if you want to change the bulbs to a different type you should be changing the housing to work with it properly. (just bc you can do it the other way doesnt mean you should)

You could retrofit the housing, too. Install HIDs, projectors, switchback boards and do it all. If you reach out to Jeremy over at https://shop.retroshop.us/ he can help you and or build something for you. I just upgraded my bulbs in my factory projectors from the stock Halogens to HIDs and then the fog lights to the Morimoto LEDs pods. - https://photos.app.goo.gl/Y9MB6yovuUVpkqmJA and https://photos.app.goo.gl/JMUMBMWvNvCR5uc18 You could check out Headlight Revolution for stuff, too

Please whatever you do, DO NOT throw just any LEDS into a reflector housing unless the bulbs were designed for such, you'll blind everyone.
