Another 5.7 Hemi Knock Thread
Looking for some opinions on my Hemi knock, I would normally go directly to broken exhaust manifold bolts but given they were done 30,000 kms ago right before the warranty ended I'm concerned it may be piston slap or hopefully something like plug pre-ignition. I should also note that it doesn't typically quiet when warmed up, driven an hour and got out to put fuel in, seems just as loud as when first started yet at times its seems hard to notice cold and warm. 80% of the time she's knocking embarrassingly loud and 20% of the time seems barely noticeable.
The Details:
I'm going to attempt to upload a short video file of the knock.
Edit: File size must be too big, see video at link below. Sorry about the background noise , quite windy today!
Thanks in advance for any feedback!
The Details:
- 2013 Ram 1500 SLT - 5.7 Hemi (Bought in 2015 at 53,000 km)
- 133,000 KM (mostly hwy but seems some action pulling campers, trailers and boats)
- Started to develop a tick around 80,000 km which would quiet once the engine warmed up, determined to be 3 manifold bolts broken and repaired at 99,000 km.
- Currently knock has been happening for the last 10,000 km
- Oil changes done every 5-7 K with Pennzoil Platinum 5W-20 synthetic and usually MOPAR filter.
- Aside from an air filter, nothing else maintenance wise has been done - did pick up new plugs today and planning to change this weekend.
I'm going to attempt to upload a short video file of the knock.
