will 2014 radio work in 2011?
The radio in my 2011 Ram 1500 Hemi 4x4 SLT has been doing some "funny" things for the past 2-3 years now. Sometimes it will be blaring tunes and then just stop pushing audio, other times it will not turn on right from the moment I start it up (doesn't matter whether it's with the fob or using remote start) and then magically start playing whatever was on last when I shut it off. Doesn't matter if it's radio or CD, and there's no connection with rain or hot/cold days. It's weird, because the display looks like it should be working...just no audio no matter how high or low I turn the volume ****.
Now get this, last year I was driving along with my dad in the truck when the sound died off while the little screen looked like everything should be functioning properly. My dad is a retired electrician on fighter jets (F-18s to be precise), so he used an old trick...he pounded his fist on the top of the silver/grey surround around the radio EXACTLY TWICE, and VOILA, instant sound! It worked perfectly for the rest of his visit, then promptly went back to its old tricks a few days after he flew home. I tried thumping it once...NADA. Tried multiple thumps....NADA. Then I tried exactly twice, and it sprang to life again for a few days until doing it again. Not frustrating at all.
Now I'm tired of looking like a bumpkin riding down the road pounding on my dash when I want to listen to my radio, and I'm looking for a cheap solution in case I sell this beast soon and buy a 2021 model. A guy in town has a stock head unit out of a 2014 he'll sell me for $30, so I just want to know if it will be plug and play, or if there will be a bunch more dicking around to get this one to work?
