Default 4wd Not engaging properly

I am looking for advice. 2014 Ram 1500 Laramie with the 4wd auto system 44-44 t-case. Today I went to use 4 low and the front axle would not engage fully. The tires would spin and then as they needed more force the front axle would release. When I looked under the truck with the rear wheels spinning the front driveshaft was turning but the front axle was not. The driveline was shaking a lot. I pulled the actuator out and it seems to be working as it should when there was no resistance on it. The collar on the axle shaft would not slide freely onto the stub axle as the splines would not line up perfectly, even when the truck was allowed to roll slightly. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Is there a bushing between the two axles that keeps them aligned??
