Default Hot weather and it doesn't want to start right away

Hi;
If it is +18 or higher and when going to start the DODGE RAM 1500 2016, I have to turn the key on, but not to start and push the gas pedal down then try to start. It sounds like the starter just keeps going, so I shut it off and hit the gas pedal again and it usually starts. Can it be vapor locking in the fuel line from the heat? I've taken it in to Dodge 3 times and they can't find out what's wrong. Injectors are spraying evenly. Something between the pump and under the hood, it seems.??

Moving this to fourth gen ram section for ya.

What's fuel pressure doing the first time you try and start it?

What is your meaning of fuel pressure? Fuel gauge goes right up. It never does it in cooler weather. Could the tank not be venting properly?

Exactly that. The engine needs pretty significant pressure to run properly. If you aren't getting it, you get hard starts, poor performance, or it simply won't start at all.

The performance is still awesome, just doesn’t like the heat. Can it be vapour locking in the fuel line?

Probably not, considering the pressure fuel injection operates at.

Trick would be, plug in with a scanner that can read live data, when the engine is stone cold, (on a hot day) see what the various sensors have to say for themselves.

Hard starting in high temperatures is one (of several) symptoms of a weak/failing fuel pump. So checking the fuel pressure, along with the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) and Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) to see if they seem reasonable would be the first things I'd check.

hello, i have the same problem with hot Temps outside and first start of the day having to press gas pedal to start. I've read what you've suggested to this one guy and are gonna look at it tomorrow. I was just wondering if you've had any more encounters/ insight into this. Thanks!
