Default Braking in 4wd grinding noise

2014 Ram 1500 There is no noise when braking , but when I put in in 4wd auto there is no noise until it down shifts from 2 to 1 gear , I checked the boots on the cv axles none ripped but seems like the driver side has more play in it when I push it up and down . Please help

Describe the noise. Where is the noise coming from?

It’s more of a grinding noise from the front somewhere but I don’t thinks it’s from transfer case or front diff because it don’t do it all the time only when the truck is braking from like 2 to first gear

The check the brakes if it only grinds when braking.

I don’t think it’s the brakes because it don’t do it in 2wheel drive only in 4 wheel drive

Try turning and braking in 4wd. (NOT on a high traction surface, thankyouverymuch) see if the noise is different in one direction.

Sounds more like a bearing grinding . Is there bearings in the front differential?
