Default 2019 Ram 1500 Classic Snow Plow Question

Anybody here put a snow plow on their 2019 Ram 1500 Classic?

I am looking to put a Western plow (Defender or HTS) on mine, but it looks like you gotta chop up the air foil and part of the grill for wiring. Just wondering if there were other options.

So I spoke to the dealership and they recommended places to go to have plows installed on my 2019 Ram 1500 Classic, but now, looking at an online owner's manual, I came across this -

SNOWPLOW
NOTE: Do not use this model vehicle for snowplow applications.

WARNING!
Snowplows and other aftermarket equipment should not be added to the front end of your vehicle. The airbag crash sensors may be affected by the change in the front end structure. The airbags could deploy unexpectedly or could fail to deploy during a collision resulting in serious injury or death.

WARNING!
Attaching a snowplow to this vehicle could adversely affect performance of the airbag system in a collision. Do not expect that the airbag will perform as described earlier in this manual.

So, if this is the case, why didn't the dealership tell me it was not recommended? Now I have to give them a call and see what the story is, because I just spent weeks looking into this and everyplace I contacted said they had a plow for my truck.

No one here put a plow on their 1500?

That seems kinda strange.... The airbag sensors are just accellerometers, so far as I know, If you decelerate at a high rate, (like, hitting something......) they trigger the airbag. I could see how hitting something with the plow might set 'em off, but, I don't really get why having a plow on there would cause them NOT to go off...... I would also question just WHY they think that way...... don't all the trucks use the same SRS system? If that were indeed the case, then Dodge wouldn't recommend putting a plow on ANY of their trucks. (which would dramatically reduce their utility.....)

Think I might call Customer service, and have a chat with them, see what they come up with.

Airbag issue aside, I can see the weight of a snow plow being an issue on the 1500 front end. Big difference between the 1500 and 2500 in how the front end is made. You can order a snowplow package for the 2500. I don't think you can for the 1500.

Very true. They do make poly plows though. (plastic, instead of steel) They are somewhat lighter, but, still, with the frame and all, a lotta weight hangin' off the front of the truck.

Well, I spoke to the Dodge dealership about this and also asked about it affecting the warranty and here was their response -

Yes the information you are presenting from the owners manual is correct because if the plow is on and you have a head on crash, the impact sensors for air bags wont be triggered because of the plow guarding the contact of the front of the vehicle. Any vehicle with a snow plow on it will be the same as stated here

Warranty*** warranty consideration for any repair that is related to having non authorized equipment on your vehicle will exempt you from coverage for that repair; example: plowing snow and you damage your transmission or 4x4 system due to over use with the plow**or if you over heat the engine with the snow plow on because it is blocking air flow though to the radiator…

Yes, there is a big difference in the trucks, but every manufacturer I've contacted has a plow made specifically for 1500 trucks. These plows run anywhere from just under 300 lbs up to a little over 400 lbs. Installers say that if you are going with the heavier plows, they would recommend at least a 2" leveling kit for the frontend. Others say you can install heavier duty springs.

Although my last truck was a 2500, since I am only using it for personal usage for a small 12 car lot, I can't see spending over $6k for a heavier plow, which is why I was thinking of going with a light duty DK2 plow. Not too user friendly, but over $2500 cheaper.

That kinda implies that the 'sensors' are actually switches, and require contact to be triggered. Making the plow a safety hazard....... Which strikes me as REALLY stupid. Dodge/Ram HAS to know folks are going to hang plows off the front of their trucks. Thats one of their primary uses.......
