5th Gen RAM general discussion/NON-techThis section is for general discussions about your 5th Gen 2019+ RAM 1500. Non tech related RAM threads belong here.
Just picked this up today. I traded in my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland.
I will be retiring the 2001 Dodge Ram in my signature. So far I am loving this truck and I have put about 100 miles on it today for a good first day test drive.
Great looking truck. I bought a 2019 Ram 1500 Limited used in 2022. It started out as a great truck, very comfortable, easy driving, and could pull my car hauler, with my Z4 loaded from the Gulf Coast, back to New Hampshire. Now I'm learning more and more about my truck. I found recently that the truck does not have a OBII connection. Without that you cannot connect a scanner to check for codes. Youtube has several videos about this, and a work around. No telling how this will effect repair bills after warranty. I was charged $135.00 for a troubleshooting fee just yesterday for a Sun Roof problem. Enjoy your truck
Yes, I expected this location first in my search for the plug. In my Ram Limited there is a large panel that has to be removed to get to the fuse panel. It has two screw on the bottom. Once these screws are remove the panel will not move, and seems to be solidly attached to the dashboard above both left and right of the steering wheel area. There is a small opening just to the left of the large panel, with a cover about 2" x 3", with a screwdriver cutout at the top. I pried it open and found a enclosed lever with a attached lanyard of bright orange rope attached. I didn't want to pull the leaver, since I had no idea what it was for. I asked the service tech, he said he had no knowledge of its existence, and did no work on this part of the truck. I'm still waiting for the Dealer to contact me about the problem with the Sun Roof. I also took a flashlight and looked under the dash, and did no see a OBII connector. I have 2 BMWs and know what the OBII connector looks like. I looked on "Youtube" and watched a video about using a jumper/programming plug to make the truck OBII compatible. I think this is a result of our U.S. Congress allowing all the "Right to Repair" laws expire in 2008. That is also why there are no repair manuals on any U.S. made, or foreign made autos. The expiration of Right to Repair, included foreign made and domestic made items like cell phones, electronics of all types, radios, Tvs and other items.
Theoretically, it is just to the left of the steering column, pointing straight down..... at least, that's what youtube shows..... Haven't seen one in person.
