Default Few more questions re: Stereo Install

Ok, thanks for all of the great information so far...Here's what I've come up with:

Phoenix Gold Octane R 5.0 4channel Amp

Polk Audio db Series db104 Subwoofer

POLK Audio db690 6x9s

Ill bridge 2 channels for the amp and put the 6x9s on a 80w channel each.

I plan to use a line converter to get RCA plugs to the am because the stock h/u doesn't have pre-amp outputs. The amp is supposed to have 12db HP / LP variable crossovers and a Low pass level port. Questions:

1) I think that the crossovers will allow me to to send mids and highs to the door speakers and lows to the subs, is this right?

2) Depending on whether I'm right in #1) do I need to put any of the bass blockers and what not on the speakers?

3) What is the Low Pass level Port?

4) When I splice into the line, I assume I want to use the line that the factory 6x9s are on so that I get a much fuller range signal to the amp?

5) How poor of a substitute for a preamp RCA is the line converter?

6) Since I'm sending 80w to the 6x9, do I need to replace the factory speaker wire?

THANKS SOOOOOO MUCH

Doug

1) Yes this is correct. On the half of the amp the mids/highs are on, just set the filter to HPF and set the crossover frequency accordingly.

2) If you set the crossover frequency on the amphigh enough you will not need and "blockers"

3) That port is for a remote bass ****

4) Yes, just in case the signal is filtered prior to the speakers

5) Quite poor. You can get up to twice as much THD (Distortion) by running a Line-level converter. The ouput from the factory headunit already has some distortion in the signal, now your're sending that singal to the amp and amplifying that distortion even more.

6) No

Thanks for the anwers...I'm not really keen on the line out setup but Im not really keen on the factory system. I though about replacing the H/U but according to crutchfield, I'll lose the Sirrius radio...Also a new H/U plus the special Canbus or whatever will cost nearly as much as the rest of the system....decisions decisions
