ive been looking but i cant find anything i have a question i want to get my radio i had in my old truck installed in my new truck. i have a 06 dodge ram 2500. my last truck was a gmc and i had to get a door chime adaptor and something else plus my fit kit, antenna adaptor and wiring harness. can i just go to walmart and get a fit kit for like 20 bucks and a wiring harness for 10 bucks and thats all i need no extra modules? i have a universal antenna adaptor so i should have that covered thanks for your time! sorry about the spelling

 

Ya.....in your gm the door chime goes thro the front driver speaker so you needed a special harness for that. Yes you can put your old aftermarket into your new truck. You jst need the correct dash kit and wiring harness and antenna adaptor.

 

You'll need to run the acc wire to the fuse panel or cig lighter for switched power. That's about it.

 

dont buy into to the B.S. about needing the 70 dollar metra dodge adapter harness. I have done about 10 or so dodge can bus radios and all you have to do is run a 12 volt wire from your cigarette lighter(assuming you dont have the smokers package because if you do the 12 volts isnt switched) then run the wire to your 12 volt red wire on your harnesss. all your functions will work fine and you will still have retained power after you pull the key out and before you open the door.

 

Ive never paid over $24 for a Metra wiring harness^^^ The only time it costs that much is if you get the entire assembly that is specialized for the Brand of the HU... Even then never paid that much... I actually would recomend getting the Harness only because when you look back at all the time that you spent in your cab sweating and bleeding from all the crimping and soldering of the wires to make your own wiring harness... the harness is worth the money to buy from Metra... The way i look at it, especially if im running it in an old car, pay $30 for the harness or pay $50 co pay at the doctors office to get a tetnis shot when you cut urself on a rusty metal part in the dash[:'(]

 

You'd still get cut. You still have to take the dash apart to put the radio in. Who wires their harness up right in the dash? Do it on the bench then plug it in.
