ok i heard soem infinitys the otehr day and i was blown away by how much i like them. so i think infinity is the brand for me. im gonna start a new post but which comapny makes teh best subs.
I agree with sgahemi alot of people would swear by the MB Quartz but i always used Boston when i buy aftermarket speakers they are excellent quailty and great sound when powered properly
Just my .02 here. Sounds like you are a boomer(not a bad thing). You dont have your vehicle in your signature so ideas will be generic. No matter how much you pay for speakers(you get what you pay for), you need to make sure that the size of the speaker matches the freqs that you are putting to it. Make sure that you put "bass-blockers" on everything but the subs. They are nothing more than capacitors to block the bass that goes inline on the positive (+) lead of the speaker. I am no means a pro, but I have installed over 50 systems in my days. One of which was an Alpine head, MB Quartz mian speakers and Kicker comp subs in a 97 S-10. This system won locally "Hi-Q" competitions for over 2 years. A thing to remember that when you listen to the 5 1/2" etc speakers in the stereo shop, they are in displays that are speaker boxes and that the sound will be different in a vehicle (dash area especially). Doors make up decent boxes so the bass will be close. When I do my installs, I get eveything together then take the seats and rug out to make the wire runs as clean as possible. To prevent alternator noise all the equipment should be grounded at the same point. Amps now days are pretty good isolated and a good chassis ground works. As for power my train of thought on that is the 123 method, 1X for highs, 2X for mids and 3X for bass. 50w,100w and 150w. But being a bass head you probably want 1000W for the subs hahahaha. When hooking up the amps make sure that you use the correct gauge wire for both + and -. Look on the amp fuse and that will be the max and add 10% for safety. Nothing like trying to hook up a 30amp drawing amp with lampcord and seeing the car go up in flames. When running power, rca and speaker lines the best way to do it is power on one side and the spreaker, esp the rca's on the other side of the vehicle. If yo uare ever planning on competing with the vehicle, take pics of any intall that will be hidden by rugs. The judges will base points on installation. Now for brands, like previously stated YOUR ears are the best judge for what sounds best to you. Bass is pretty much bass because it is omni-directional. Sealed boxes are tighter but ported are more db. Sealed boxes are also able to handle more power. If room is a concern, there are a few companies that make small enclosure speakers, Kicker Solo-Baric is one of the most well known ones. Remember also that if the box will be firing through the seats the volume and crispness will be decreased abit. People used to look at me funny when I would bring in a pillow to place in front of a speaker and box that I was thinking of installing to simulate the firing through the seat. Well this has dragged out enough, I hope this has given you a lil insight
