The @#%*! Dreaded Previous Owner!
I installed a new Sony CD player in my '01 Ram 1500, it worked great for a while. Then when I'm driving down the road, it went dead. Poof. Nothing, nada. Checked the fuses, nothing there. Pulled the radio and checked the wiring, no juice on the yellow/black wire (the one that is supposed to be hot ALL the time, to maintain the stereo unit's memory). Didn't have time to fix it, so I wired it to the switched power so I at least had a radio. The wife pulled the horse trailer to an event the next weekend, and she commented that the lights were flickering on the trailer. When I checked, the truck had no parking lights with the lights on...headlamps worked, brake lights worked, but no parking lights...and no dome light, no cargo light, no convenience lights on the running boards. Pulled the dash apart looking for the problem, found where the DPO (Dreaded Previous Owner) had wired up some driving lights by sticking the power supply wire into the the headlight dimmer switch...looked under the dash and found more splicing and inidvidual fuse holders. It's enough to make me batty...I'm certified to solder/desolder to aerospace specs and bad wiring makes me nuts. I want to keep this truck (for gosh sakes, I haven't even made ONE payment on it yet!), so I want to fix it.
The wiring diagram in my Haynes manual isn't worth beans. I desperately need a wiring diagram for my truck.
Thanks in advance for any help,
Kent
