Default Factory gps VS after market

In the near future I'll be ordering a 2008 Ram Mega Cab Laramieand was considering getting the gps-navigation radio. As this isa $1,595 option,I'd like to get someopinons on this unit prior to pulling the trigger. My goal is to have clean look with aneasy to use, quality unit with useful features whilekeeping the ability to use my steering wheel mounted controls.I'll primarily be usingthe radio, gps,and i-pod;The dvd funtions would be for the kids (plug into screens in rear area?)Anyreccomendations on factory version upgrade versusjust getting the standard radioand upgrading with anafter market product?

Thanks in advance!

Bill

Save your money and get an aftermarket. You'll spend a little more, but the quality, and features will be much nicer than the factory. Get the regular, base model, lowest line factoryradio, but then order the factory Bezel from the parts departmentthat comes in the ones with factory Nav. This will allow you to mount a Double-Din aftermarket navigation unit in your truck.. Then purchase the aftermarket unit of your choice. (Pioneer AVIC's come to mind), get the proper dash kit and wiringfrom a stereo shop, and voila. It will look damn near factory and will boast much better sound quality, and features. You might spend a couple hundred more, but you'll thank yourself down the road

I was informed today the cost of the factory navigation system has gone up for '08s and is now $1,883. Your plan sounds like a good one, thanks for the input!Do these types ofin-dash systems have have abilityto allow passengers towatch dvds while vehicle is moving; at the very least on monitors in rear compartment?

Thanks again!

Yes, and can be bypassed for front viewing if you really wanted.
