Uconnect help PLEASE
I need help please!!!
I am first time visitor to the forum and have a question regarding uconnect. I recently sold my 02 Ram 1500 and purchased an 07Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie. I got it used with 6000 miles and it has everything except uconnect. I know that there is an aftermarket sustem, but I really want one that allows the sound to come through the factory speakers. When I called the Dodge dealer, the service guy told me that I would not be able to install a factory system, the only option I had was the after market uconnect. Is that really the case?
Can I install a factory uconnect system that will play over the speakers in the truck? Are the controls on the mirror?
Where is the best palce to purchase it andwhat would it cost?
I noticed that there was a post about getting a special wiring harness, what do i need?
Any major difficulties or gotchas I should be aware of?
Do I need to take the truck back to the dealer to hav ethem reprogam something?
Thanks for the all the help

Yes it can be added but isn't cheap. A complete kit with mirror, uconnect module and wire harness can be bought from www.moparsupercenter.com. I believe the kit you need is part #PKUC but talk to Ted there and he'll set you up.
The alternative is to buy the parts yourself and make your own wire harness. I have seen info on this on various Dodge forums.
The dealers sell a Mopar UConnect kit but it uses a seperate speaker, control panel etc. It does mute the stereo but does not use the stereos speakers.

The Mopar UConnect aftermarket kit has been updated. It now functions the same as the factory installed UConnect. Sound is through the stereo speakers and caller ID, battery level, signal strength show up on the radios readout (depending on radio and phone). It does use a seperate push button pad and mike rather than the mirror. It costs about 1/2 what a factory style kit would cost.
The old kit used an under dash speaker and did not display any info on the radios display.

Ted's kit from Mopar Super Center is a factory style kit. His kit includes a custom made wire harness, uconnect module and new rear view mirror. The result is exactly the same as if you bought your truck with that option. Meaning the UConnect buttons and mike are on the auto dimming mirror. Price is about $550 I believe.
What I was referring to is the new Mopar kit available through any Dodge or Chrysler dealer. Part # is 82210081AA. Price is about $275. It includes a uconnect module, wire harness, mike and keypad. Functionally it is identicle to Ted's kit. The difference is that it uses a seperate mike and small keypad. I mounted the mike on my overhead console and the keypad on the centerdash bezel just to the left of the cig. lighter.
Both kits require a factory stereo and will not work with aftermarket. I just installed the Mopar kit and am quite happy with it.

How difficult was the install? Does the sound play out of the factory speaker or do you have to have the seperate one. Do you have nay pics on the finished product. I would be very interested in seeing the look. After the initial configuration, I am assuming that you can get in the vechile and it recognizes the device.

Installation was easy. Remove the center stereo bezel and remove stereo. I mounted the UConnect module just below the stereo behind the bezel as there was plenty of room. I mounted the mike up on the overhead console.I removed the passenger side A-Piller (2 screws) and ran the wire up. The overhead console is held on by 2 screws behind the light bezels which just snap off.
