Default Audio Ideas 2006 Dakota Club Cab

I want to get a system sometime down the road thats better than the stock one. I am not looking for something with ridiculously huge subs or bazooka tubes or anything like that I just want a really nice head unit and probably a good set of about 4 speakers to go with. Suggestions?

I have almost the same truck as you. The setup I'm looking at for mine is Alpine iDA-X100 (if I didn't have an ipod it would be the CDA-9857) with a PDX 4.100 powering 6.5" type R's (component front and coaxial rear) along with a JL 10W7 powered by a PDX 1.600 or the 10" type X powered by a PDX 1.1000. Of course it will probably be late 2009 before I can afford the whole setup but I'm hoping to get at least the head unit in this summer. If you're not obsessed with bass I'd imagine the type R's would put out enough to go without a sub or you could get the JL audio stealthbox they offer for the club cabs. If you're looking for something cheaper for the head unit I have had very good luck in the past with JVC's Arsenal line, my dad has my old KD-SH9750 I bought in 2003 in his Ram now and it's working fine, still sounds great.

Wow thats a lot of money bro. I was hoping to put a system in with my tax return next year, I do want a sub but nothing huge. I like base just not too too much of it. I wish I knew more about how sound systems work and how their wired and what not perhaps you could enlighten me on the fine intricacies of sound systems and how they work.

Well for a sub what's more important to you, volume or sound quality? The type of music you listen to can make a difference too. Not really sure what to say overall for sound systems, if you have more specific questions about it I can try to answer them and there's people here that know a lot more than me too.

the infinity reference 6022i series is very good quality. at crutchfield they are $99 a pair.
very clear sound and fairly good mid low range, adding a small powered sub would make it perfect (8" ot 10")

as for the head unit... i like the alpine cda9885 or the kenwood excelon series.
both provide excellent sound quality and allow iPod connectivity.

i am an advocate for alpine... if you are looking for good sound quality with good clear bass(possibly loud depending on settings), i would go with one or 2 alpine type S subs. they are relatively inexpensive but the sound is amazing... i would then go with alpine type S components, 5x7s or even 6x9s if you can fit them... limited budget would be fine for type S speakers, best bang for the buck... then its your choice of a head unit (stick with alpine if you do all type S)... i can help you with anything you want as far as audio goes... ive heard virtually every set up possible (audio shows and i used to install for a company)... so anything you need advice or even products, i got you covered...
