Amp question
Hey guys, so quick question here. So currently in my 08 QC ram i've got an alpine head unit, 4 new alpine speakers, 2 12'' subs and an amp powered to the subs. I've got a crossover, but it's not hooked up. I know in order to improve the sound quality at louder volumes i need a new amp and then I can use the crossover. So my question is, what kind of amp do i need? There are 2-channel and multi channel amps. Which one will work best for me? I'm just going to run it through the speakers seeing as i've already got an amp for the subs. Thanks
First off what kind of x-over do you have? Is it a 3 way or 2 way unit? Most amps these days have x-overs built into them so depending on the quality of your x-over it might not be needed. If you want some better sound at higher volumes you should look at adding a 4 channel amp for your 4 new Alpines. You already have an amp for your subs so you just need to amp your speakers. Look for a 4 channel that has built in x-overs or at least high/low pass filters so that you can control what frequencies go to your speakers. Low frequencies are not good for speakers at high volumes. I'm sure your subs are already x-over'd for all your low frequencies so that will take care of your sub range. Your new Alpines should be set for your mid to high range. Hope this helps.
almost all 4 channels have built in crossovers and w/e you will need to do the tuning. no need for an external crossover at all nowadays except for the ones that come with a set of component speakers.
Your alpine head unit should also have built in filters to use as well to help with the fine tuning.
you will see a night and day difference between preamplfiier and amplified. your sq and volume will go through the roof.
