I have always like Kenwood. I had one in my last vehicle and was stolen, and when they replaced it through the insurance company, they put an Alpine in. I liked the Kenwood better. When I got my 04 sxt, I did take the Alpine and put it in, and I did notice a better sounding system. I will eventually get new speakers. i am going infinity kappas since i work for the company that owns them and I get a bad *** discount

stock isn't bad, but if you like your music go aftermarket with some amps.

This is a question like boxers or briefs hahahaa. Just remember once you start you wont stop. Its a curse. I started with "just" a headunit and 4 speaker upgrade. Just finished today with a 8 speaker/2 amp setup. I went with Alpine as a matter of personal choice. Equipment cost $850. I did all the fab and install myself. The stereo shop where I got the majority of the equipment from would have charged $750 for the fab and install. Signature says it all. The link is to my website. Click on the Alpine button for install pics.

Alpine is the way to go Head Unit wise...
speaker and amplifier wise...you have PLENTY of other choices tho...

I think you'll find that it is the opposite. You'll probably discover that the stock CD player sounds good and the speakers in the car are junk compared to many inexpensive aftermarket types. If you are trying to keep the costs down I recommend you start with the speakers first and do the head unit second.

I agree to the stock speakers are just ok. When I took them out to replace mine, all they are single cone with a shiny dust cap. Any 2-way speaker are a vast improvement. I tried 3-way but they are too bright for my tastes.
