Default i dont get it??

I just installed a cd player in my 98 dodge ram van. It has the factory amp. Now everything is working just fine except the right front door speaker, the right front dash speaker is working properly. Other than this everything is working properly....any ideas?? Thanks.

how did you connect the new deck? did you use a wiring harness or cut the factory harness and just connect wires?
Also did you twist and tape or use connectors for the wiring?

other possibilities.
bad speaker.
the speaker out from amp could have been damaged.
wire to the amp for that speaker could have been disconnected when perm. installing the stereo.
wires simply disconnected from speaker.
depending on the deck used it may be set to just the left/rear side? Not sure how its hooked up or the wiring layout.

Did you test it before completing the installation? before I set the aftermarket deck perm. I test all speakers (left/right/rear/front etc.) volume, sound with engine running and not running, basically making sure everything works like it should.

Yeah i got a harness all never not use one and yes I just twisted and taped, I know its not the best way but its the way ive always done it. I know i can check the speaker connections behind the door panel but how can I check the wire to the amp?

I've been looking for a wiring diagram for a 98 dodge van. Came across some sites that you have to pay to download it. I also cam across this. http://794.rvepwdk.az.pl/ but I can't view it from this computer. might have a look and see if it helps.
First thing I'd do is check the twisted/taped wires. I've had some come appart. I've also had good luck just twisting and taping the wires but went to using criped harware for installs. I only instal family and friends audio components now, so I'm not real familar with most vehicles any longer. I haven't done "paid" installs in a very long time.

If you can find or have a wiring diagram you'll be able to follow/find your stereo wires and evaluate. maybe even try using a working speaker to test the current connected speaker not working unless you have a testing light or meter.

I posted a couple links when trying to find some other wiring diagrams. look a few posts down.

sorry I couldn't be of more assistance.

here is one of the pay sites. http://www.wiring-diagram.com/purchase.htm
Another pay site w/ pics. didn't pay so I'm not certain of the content. http://www.carstereoremoval.com/htm/...ckUp98_01P.htm

also found this http://www.*********.com/forums/arch...p/t-31752.html

OK so I looked around some more and it sounds (I could be wrong) like there are amps on each speaker. You can wire around the amp thats connected to the speaker.
Get to the speaker that isn't working and see (for sure) there is an amp built in to the speaker. If so wire around the speakers amp.

thanks for the help guys. Ive been really busy at work so i havent had the time to check it out. I have pulled the harness out and checked if the twist and tape had come apart and it did not, so if the rain lets up here at all tonight ill pull off the door panel to see what i can. Thanks again.

Pull the head unit out and test the head unit and the speaker. Here's what you'll need:

-AA battery
-Digital Multimeter with good test leads

To test the speaker with a factory amplfier, disconnect the passenger front speaker leads (grey, grey/black). Leave the rest of the connections alone, as you'll need the head unit to be turned on to kick the amplifier on. With the volume turned all the way down, take the speaker wires comming from the factory adapter harness (grey, grey/black). Touch the solid grey to the pausitive terminal of the battery, the grey/balck to the negative. You should hear a small 'pop' when you make the contact if the speaker and amplifier are working properly. If you do not hear a pop, then there's an issue with wither the amplifier or the speaker, and further trouble shooting is required.

If the amp and speaker are in good working order, move on to the second step. Take your multi meter, adjust it to Volts AC and find yourself a good chasis ground. Next, take the pausitive test lead and touch it to the grey wire comming from the head unit. Turn the volume about half way up, you should see voltage that goes up and down with volume and the beat of the music. It won't be a lot of voltage, only between .5 and 1.8 volts at about 50% volume. Repeat this test with the grey/black wire. If you see voltage out of both wires, your deck is putting out the appropriate signal.

Good luck
