Arrow Help diagnose stereo wiring problem!!

Ok, a buddy and I are trying to install a stereo in my 03 Quad Cab but have run into some trouble. We first hooked up the aftermarket head unit and that was working just fine. We then proceeded to install the amp wiring and hooked up the amp. The amp did not power on though and now the head unit does not turn on either. So I am assuming we did something wrong with the amp kit wiring but we cannot figure it out. We checked all of the fuses and they are all fine.

During this time we also took out the stock 6x9's in the front doors to replace them with some better ones. But stopped once we found out the stereo wasn't working. the wires aren't touching anything. Not sure if the speakers being out is relevant but I thought I would mention it. I am also going to list some of the symptoms that the electrical system showing to see if you guys can help.

1. Headlights work fine, but when I turn the truck off the headlights turn off as well (without me manually turning them off). They normally stay on until I turn them off. There is also no "ding ding" when the truck is off, even though they are switched to on.

2. When I open the truck door with the truck off, the interior lights do not come on. They do if the truck is on though.

3. With the truck off, the interior lights do turn on, but there seems to be a small delay.

He has installed these before with no problems, so we aren't completely retarded. If you guys have any suggestions or know what is wrong it would be greatly appreciated!!!

Did you remember to disconnect the battery completely when installing them?

Well, it might be that you did not wire the HU properly the first time and so it only worked temporarily until you messed with the amp. Maybe the amp is blown and the RCA cable messed up the stereo. The speakers will not have any affect on the HU but if you didnt wire the HU properly, that could affect them.

Well then I guess the first step would be to unhook the amp wiring and see if we can get the head unit to work again...

Try unhooking the amp power cable from the batttery then hook the battery back up and test the HU. If nothing else work backwards from where you were when you realized it stopped working. What kind of amp is it and what is the rms power rating on it?

Yeah, just recheck all the connections on the amp and HU, make sure it is grounded well and you didn't cut the rca wire

Make sure your battery is charged also. These trucks act real goofy when the battery gets low...

this is how my stereo is wired up, its an 07 model truck, so not sure if that makes too much difference.

-there is a red wire jumping from the red wire in the harneses to the red wire in my 12v plugin source.

-your remote wire, usually blue, should be 'tapped' into the solid blue wire in your harness

This is the way the shop installed it. The only reason I know is 'cause I had to take it ALL apart to send the headunit in for repairs.

Hope this helps in any way, let us know.....
