dealer messed my radio up... HELP!
hi, i own a 2008 dodge ram 1500 quad cab
i have the rec nav radio, but for some reason my truck didnt not that the infinity speakers. i wanted to redo the stereo so i got an adapter to add amps which worked fine, then i got this lockpick adapter that let me use the stock radio with and ipod hook up and use it for video and reverse camra.
All was good till i took it back to the dealer for its first oil change, and i guess during the time it was there the mother f***ers update my trucks software and now it blocks my stuff from working. they said they have to do it the trucks by law so that people can burn there own nav discs and not have to pay the ripoff fee for the new ones.
since then my truck keeps getting this annoying airbag light poping up and going away. they said its cause of the raido, so i plan to get a new radio, but they told me i will still have problems like that because the cars computer is going to freakout that the stock raido is not there.
my question is there a way to put a new radio in with out gettting errors like for the airbag? or is there a way i can disable hearing the ding sound from the error, and if so will the airbag still work if i get in an acident?

The radio in your truck IS connected to the trucks computer, and yes doing something aftermarket to the stock radio in the extreme like you have done can cause you some problems. Exactly what problems will happen will vary.
Now for replacing the whole radio system with an aftermarket system, there is no problem. There is a bypass connector that will be installed that removes the computer from attempting to read an aftermarket radio so you will be ok there. The only thing that will effect the aftermarket radio here is that when you turn the key off, the radio will shut off at the same time. It won't stay on until you open the door. Small price to pay to have what you want.
Now you may ask if the bypass will work on the stock radio. The answer is no. The stock radio is designed to work with the trucks computer. It needs the computer to turn on it's that bad. Even worse is that you can not install your stock radio into another vehicle unless it is a 2006 or newer Dodge because of the new set up with the electronics.
Hope this helps.
