Stereo ??
I have an 02 QC, I have the infinity stereo and want to replace with aftermarket unit with ipod and usb hookups. Does the factory head unit have the amp built in or will the new stereo go through the amp? Also how many watts is the factory amp? Thanks for any help
Amp is seperate, I believe behind the glove box?? Wattage....minimal. Nothing that will run aftermarket speakers with ease plus they have filters/splitters in them to run with stock speakers, this limits the potential of better one's. Amp splits signal for dash speakers and door speakers(highs/lows)
I would guess wattage right around 30w. Total guess though. Certainly nothing compared to an aftermarket amplifier, BUT it will run them, you just may not be too pleased.

The amp is behind the glovebox in the 07s. I'm not exactly sure about the 02s. I will say tho that I installed 2 12s in my QC and used the infinity speakers. I used the infinity amp, just used an interface to connect it. (which you will need if you want to keep the infinity amp)
I think the one thing you will notice is that the dash speakers are not just regular tweeters like some people think. They are actually just a 2" speaker, you can run them off some crossovers but you still take that risk of throwing high freq sound through it. Not to mention you would have to rip your whole dash apart just get them out.
I used my infinity system and im quite pleased. I would just try it out before your start ripping things apart, if you don't like it then well, start ripping
