Default Head Unit Install

I searched the forum and didn't find the answer to this question.

My girlfriends father just bought a new '05 1500 Dodge Ram. He was told by best buy that the wiring harness he had used with his 1993 dodge caravan would not work with his new truck. They wanted over $100 for the hardware and install. I have installed stereo systems (headunits, amps, subs, aftermarket speakers, etc.) in my car and could easy hook up his new cd player if he trusts me to do it.....

So before I take out his old head unit etc... is it the same wiring harness and will I run into any other problems?

Also if anyone knows either of the part numbers for either harness could you please let me know.

Thanks and in the mean time I will continue searching.

I think the '05 ram 1500 use the

Metra 70-6502
but Im not sure because the only sites I see only go up to 02 rams....

So If I get this harness that should be all there is to it...???

As stated, they do not use the same harness. Just walk into a local shop, and ask for a wiring harness for the desired vehicle...it'll be less than $20 (I usually pick wiring harnesses up for around $10-15). Then that's all you need, just take off the dash part, plug the aftermarket wiring harness into the stock harness...and bam...match color-coded wires. If he has any type of premium stock system, like with a stock amplifier, you will need to make sure it will still have a remote turn-on. later
