Default REC or RER?! Nav install question.

I wonder of those of you who have the REC if you would rather have the RER. I would like to put one in my 2008 Ram 2500. I know I need the dash plate, dvd, and antenna. Where is the stock location of the antenna? I have Sirius, all I need to change my Sirius over is the number on the back of the head unit, correct? I did see in my search that my steering controls and infinity will all still work. If I get the RER the lockpick is going to allow me to add reverse camera and stuff like that correct? Thanks for the help. Just want to go over this so I got it down before I pay for the radio.

Default RER Mygig

Ok,99. I have an 08 RER from a Charger installed in my 06 Ram 1500. I used the Lockpick ADAPTER due to the age of my truck. You should be able to use the regular lockpick for yours. Check with the web site to be sure. I had to change the center dash to accommodate the larger radio head. Not hard at all to do. You will need a nav antenna, may need an adapter for the AM/FM antenna (extension). I have not hooked up the Sirius radio, but the RER has built in Sirius, you just need the antenna for it. Call Sirius with the new number. The Sirius antenna is usually top rear of cab, the AM/FM antenna comes in the passenger door and is under the side kick panel.

The newest lockpicks come with 4 camera inputs (mine only had two), constant and switched DC outputs, a USB mini port for software updates and with the extra AV cable you can attach games and other video. I have really enjoyed mine, I was even able to get the clock fix for the unit, an 06 problem.

You can find software updates for the Mygig here.

Good luck, keep up updated.

I need the low speed correct? I have a feeling I'll love it. This lockpick thing is kinda confusing. From what I can tell I still need the adapter too. I was looking at the coastal one. If anything I'm just going to get the backup camera. Prolly look for the factory kit. Now mine has sirius hooked up now so I should just be able to hook up the antenna and call sirius with the new number. I just want to make sure I get the right radio. Can the rearview mirror with microphone work with the radio too?!

Yes, yours should be the low speed unit. I had a license plate holder cam, but really liked the BARCAM221 cam lockpick sells. It has the ability to show distance marks to help you back up. You can get it cheaper by doing a search on google or ebay. Double check your Sirius connection, if not subscribed you should have ch 182, which I think was a weather channel showing on the radio. If you don't see this then you have an antenna problem.

I replaced my mirror with a mirror that has the uConnect dual mike installed, and is auto-dimming. You need an adapter that plugs into the existing wiring to the mirror and into the back of the RER unit. You will stuff the wiring under the headliner and down behind the trim on the drivers A pillar side. Look on ebay for the mirror or adapter if needed. Checking the lockpick site, yes you need the adapter for an 08 Ram truck. For the cameras you also need the multimedia AV cable which should also give you iPod/Phone connections.

Here is the mirror that I now have. It has dual mikes but no uconnect controls. All of my controls are on the RER unit itself. I do not know the number for the wiring harness for the mirror at this time. This was the auction for all the parts that I purchased on ebay.

Did you have any trouble uploading your IPOD to this? I have a 2010 Grand Caravan and can't seem to do it. Every time I plug in to it, it says there is nothing there.

Don't have an iPod, but did load all my iPhone tunes to the Mygig via the USB port and a flash drive. My daughter connected her iPhone via the USB and it loaded her songs without problems.
