alternator upgrading
Im looking for a high output alternator. like 140-160 amp. I dont need it yet but i am researching for when i upgrade my stereo system and such. any ideas where to get these, or a vehicle that pushes that stock that will match up to my 2001 dodge neon?
My second question, from my research the neons voltage regulator is built into the ecu. and running a high output alt, will fry this and you must replace your ecu which is quite costly. Anyone else heard this or experienced it? And if so how can you bypass and put say an external voltage regulator on and bypass the built in one within the ecu.
And my final question is in reference to the big three as its been called, the upgrading of the positive alt output to battery positive (with a fuse close to battery) and upgrading the engine to chassis ground and the battery negative to chassis ground cables with larger (i have used 4 gauge and 1/0 gauge wire)
I have only done this on my explorer, which the voltage regulator is built in to the alternator.
If the voltage regulator is built into the ecu, can i do the direct wire still from the alts output to the battery positive?
thanks in advance
